Getting Here
Well, I was pretty worried I wasn't going to arrive on time because of all the horrible weather the Midwest is getting. But guess what-I made it right on schedule. My original flight out of St. Louis was delayed, and I would've missed my connecting flight to Germany, but luckily there are saints like Cindy working for US Airways. She somehow got me on the earlier flight that was booked and I left right in time! I had no other problems traveling- except the German guy who didn't quite understand his arms and legs need to stay on his side (he elbowed me constantly). I did manage to get some sleep- how much? I don't know. But luckily I can get to bed early tonight! I met my host mom- and she seems very nice. Her English is okay, and i think I've already spoke more Spanish in the 6 hours I've been here than I have my whole life! My roommate is super awesome as well. We both enjoy making fun of the other students who cant speak a lick of Spanish and look like super eager beaver tourists. We try to blend in and stay away from the huge group of obvious Americans. It really is astonishing how many kids are here for mainly just partying and have no desire to learn the language or culture. The whole group of ISA Barcelona kids (roughly 150 of us) had to walk about 6 blocks together. Kids assumed that since we were in a group that we could just walk if the crosswalk switches to DO NOT WALK...needless to say we Americans still like to think it's our way or the highway. I did get to experience the Metro and a taxi. Both are pretty economical. One thing I've also learned is that space is limited. My room is quite small-a little bit wider than my wingspan, and I don't quite fit in my bed. But oh well, it's a learning experience, or so they say. Sadly I haven't had time to eat any real Spanish cuisine =[ But i'm ready for tomorrow and I'll post some pics later!
